A Veteran’s Day Message from James DeCocq: Today I Had Ice Cream with A Hero

“Today is a somber day for many American's. Today we remember the men and women who have served their country so bravely. On this day we also reflect on the sacrifices of the families and loved ones of these heroes that will long be remembered in our hearts. I also join my fellow Americans in honoring those veterans who are still with us and who deserve our undying gratitude.

This afternoon I enjoyed an ice-cream at our local ice-cream shop with my wife and three-year old daughter. I ran into a young man who I befriended several years back. When I first met him, I was overcome by his enthusiasm as he proudly shared that he was joining the military. Today, he nobly announced that he was in fact a private and that by next year; he would be serving with the Marines.

As we said goodbye and my little girl turned to wave to him, I couldn’t help but think. Yesterday my family was protected by the valiant soldiers of our armed forces. Tomorrow, my little girl will be protected by this young man and his brothers and sisters that join him to serve our country.

He is too humble to realize how brave he is just to sign up for the privilege serve our country. He is too unassuming to realize he earned my full respect. I do believe that today I had ice-cream with a hero.

For all who have served and continue to serve these United States, we salute you.”

PRESS RELEASE

James DeCocq Announces Candidacy For Florida State Representative – District 33

A leader with the energy and experience to find additional State Government efficiencies and create a climate which creates jobs and opportunity

ORLANDO, FL – (October 26, 2009) Republican James D. DeCocq announced his candidacy for the Florida State Representative District 33 race.  DeCocq, a small business owner, runs a firm that creates and manages local governments.  His professional life has been dedicated to increasing local control and citizen oversight of our neighborhoods and communities.  Entering an already crowded field, DeCocq (De “Cook”) believes his experience as a small business owner and expertise in creating and sustaining cost-efficient local municipalities are needed more than ever during this time of declining revenues and increased demand for government services such as unemployment compensation and Medicaid funding.  "With the drastic decline in State revenues, we must engage the public to determine their views on funding priorities." states DeCocq. DeCocq will use his expertise to guide the State toward greater implementation of cost-savings and efficiency measures.  "We must review current tax policies to ensure State Government does not hinder a recovery and future economic growth. Unlike the federal government, the State must pass and fund a balanced budget."

Also, a strong believer in our responsibility to the environment, DeCocq was responsible for the historical Key Biscayne, FL beach restoration.  Shortly after this success he went on to serve as Assistant City Manager for the Village of Key Biscayne, and Assistant City Manager and City Manager for The City of Sunny Isles Beach and the City of Marathon.  In 2006, DeCocq began his own small business.  James knows firsthand what it means to make a payroll and successfully grow a business during a major downturn in the economy.

DeCocq enters this race confident that his knowledge and experience will maximize his productivity in the Florida House.  His official campaign kicks off on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Avalon Park: Town Center Park with a community event that features local businesses and other exhibitors and booths such as: Neighborhood Watch, health screenings, pony rides, bounce house and more. Event times are 3:00-7:00 p.m.  Local communities are the backbone of this country, and James believes this campaign for the Florida Legislature should be about meeting the needs of families right in their own neighborhoods.
